Sources: SAC invites Homestead, Carroll to join

Deal would be for football, basketball only

Homestead and Carroll have been invited to join the Summit Athletic Conference in football and boys and girls basketball, according to multiple sources.

Homestead and Carroll have until Dec. 20 to accept the offer.

The invitation is for the two sports only.

Homestead and Carroll will be in the market for a new conference after the remaining six members of the Northeast Hoosier Conference leave in 2015 to form a new league with Leo and Huntington North.

The other NHC schools are Bellmont, Columbia City, DeKalb, East Noble, New Haven and Norwell.

Currently, the SAC has eight members after the closing of Elmhurst and Harding over the last few years. The other schools are Bishop Dwenger, Bishop Luers, Concordia, Northrop, North Side, Snider, South Side and Wayne.

Homestead Joe Updegrove and Carroll AD Dan Ginder said "no comment" when asked about the invitation.

South Side principal and SAC president Carlton Mable is out of the office until Tuesday and unavailable for comment.
